September 2019 – UK Construction Week Supplement
Contractors and construction professionals who want to boost their knowledge, discover new products and network with their peers could do a lot worse than spend a day at UK Construction Week (UKCW).
Now in its fifth year, UKCW is one event with many sections: Build; Building Tech; Civils; Energy & HVAC; Surface & Materials; and Timber. It also features Concrete Expo (8th–9th October only) and Grand Designs Live (9th-10th October only). Single registration gives free access to all areas of the show and pre-booking is strongly recommended for the seminars and CPD programme.
This year the focus is on innovation and how it can create new value in the industry.
The Innovation Zone is a new feature, introduced in partnership with the government-funded Construction Innovation Hub. It is a non-sales environment where visitors can explore ideas, learn and be inspired.
MOBIE, the educational charity set up by architect and Amazing Spaces television presenter George Clarke, has also teamed up with the Hub to inspire future designers through the Student Design Challenge.
This initiative challenges students to design “the ultimate 21st century house” taking technology, affordability, size, space, family growth, sustainability, comfort, individuality and aesthetics into account. The winning design will be on display at UKCW.
An Innovation Station, sponsored by social media marketing agency On the Tools, will allow leading manufacturers to showcase their latest power tools and offer demonstrations within the demo area.
Key innovation themes throughout the event include Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), sustainability, the digital revolution and diversity in the workforce. Risk management, productivity and skills issues related to these areas will be explored.
